I looked back through my notes, because I keep notes about everything. I had the idea for the book around the 1st of March. It's April 11th. So from concept idea:
• What should the title be?
• Can I write an entire book that covers everything anyone would need to know about this?
• If I can, where in the Hell do I start?
• Amazon - in eBook, Paperback and Hardcover versions.
I got that far, made an outline, and then wrote the damn thing.
If you were to graph my time writing the book vs. dealing with the business end - I'd say 18%-22% of my time went on the writing of the book. ALL the rest, deep in the weeds on business.
• What should the cover look like?
• Should I put a pic on the book?
• What should the colors be on the front and back?
• What size paper do I use? (You wouldn't believe how long it took to figure this out.)
• Do I use white or creme - or a million other variations that I didn't know existed.
• Where do I get the graphics done?
• I hired a professional designer, and now he's asking me all these questions. In order for him to make the front, the back and the spine - which are different for both Paperback and Hardcover - he needs to know what the book will be made out of, how many pages, what kind of paper, etc.
•Then there's Amazon. So many guidelines.
I could go on for days and days. THAT was just AMAZON. To get it into retail outlets and libraries - probably double the work, however, at this point I'd learned about paper, size, spines, textures, etc. etc. etc.
Every time someone sends me a picture of them holding the book, my taint feels like a small furry animal is tickling me while smiling. Yes. Quote me on that one.
Now - to stop bragging.
Listen, I'm a kid from a rural town in Alabama with a population of about 600. I was an average student in High School. (Except for in English and music where I more than excelled.) I was the funny kid who's mouth got his ass kicked a few times. I wanted out of that little town, and I had big dreams. I still do have big dreams.
Dreams are hope. Each step you take to getting to a dream = happiness and confidence. You know how they ask beauty contestants really stupid questions like, "What is your hope for mankind?"
My answer would be this: "I wish for every single person on the planet to manifest at least one dream, and to do everything they can, everything in their power to make it happen. Doing that says you love yourself. If you can love yourself, you can love other people."
Now that is absolutely corny, but I believe it with all my heart. Yes, go buy my book - but I'd honestly rather have you promise me you'll take one dream - just one - and go do it. Study it. Learn it. Know it. Think about it. Talk about it. Find it! FIND IT! You will feel a vibration in your heart, soul and your BALLS when you find it - and you will be on a path that will have you standing on a mountain screaming, "YOU KNOW MY NAME!!!!"
I love you all.
Keith
